Mumbai: Producer Ekta Kapoor has finally broken her silence on the controversy regarding her recent web-series, XXX: Uncensored, by hitting out at cyber bullies for threatening her with rape.
Ekta’s outburst came after former Big Boss contestant Vikas Phatak aka Hindustani Bhau filed a case against her for hurting sentiments with a sex scene in the web-series featuring an army man in uniform.
Following this, the complainant and other trolls took to social media to threaten Ekta and her mother Shobha Kapoor with rape.
During an Instagram chat with Shobhaa De, Ekta said, “This gentleman, who thinks that he’s the patriot of the year, decided to come out there, abuse my mother and me. And now, he has openly put a rape threat on a social media platform. This is now no longer about the army or sexual content because the idea of this is ‘rape a girl, rape her 71-year-old mother’ for making sexual content. It means sex is bad, but rape is okay.”
She further said that it was “no big deal” for her to apologise for the controversial scene, which has been deleted from the series, but “now I have decided to take the route of standing up to this cyber bullying”.
The producer also said that she will willingly apologise if any army institution demands it.
“We are deeply respectful towards the Indian Army. Their contribution to our well-being and security is immense. We have already deleted the scene that is being spoken about so action has been taken from our side. We fully apologise for any sentiment that is hurt unintentionally,” she added.
