Sex Jokes, Vulgar Language, Racism: Netizens Call For A Complete Ban On ‘India’s Got Latent’

Mumbai: Controversial Indian talent show ‘India’s Got Latent’, hosted by Samay Raina, has once again landed in a soup following a crass joke by popular YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, also known as BeerBiceps.

Just weeks ago, an FIR was lodged against one of the show’s contestants, Jessy Nabam, for her controversial comments on eating dog meat.

Now, Ranveer’s distasteful joke has irked netizens, who are demanding a complete ban on the show.

Ranveer asked contestants on the show “if they would prefer to watch their parents have sex for the rest of their lives or join them once to end the situation.”

“What the f***?” exclaimed host Samay Raina, who was left dumbfounded by Ranveer’s question.

“Kya ho gaya hai Ranveer bhai ko?” said another judge on the show.

As soon as the video clip of the show went viral, netizens called out the show for its vulgar content and demanded a complete shutdown.

One user tweeted, “This crap show should end. Sex jokes, vulgar language, racism, North-South hate etc. is being shown in the name of Dark humour. Ban India’s Got Latent.

Another wrote, “#IndiasGotLatent should be BANNED. I strongly object to the statement given by all of you, it cannot be forgiven, delete that entire episode and apologise to the whole of India.”

One user stated, “This is the most disgusting thing I have ever heard on any social media… They need a complete ban and need to be thrown… what a filthy mindset they have… Even in the close circuit also nobody speaks like this… this is very brutal and they need to be taught a lesson… Sick mentality.”

A complaint has been filed in Bandra Magistrate Court seeking criminal action against YouTuber Ranveer, comedian Samay Raina, YouTuber Ashish Chanchlani and other organisers of India’s Got Latent for spreading obscenity and vulgarity through controversial remarks.

Others have filed similar complaints before the Bombay High Court. Mumbai Police have already initiated an inquiry into the matter.

Reports are also doing the rounds that a legal complaint is being filed against the show and its makers “with the Mumbai Commissioner and Maharashtra Women’s Commission for allegedly using abusive language on the show and strict action has been demanded against the accused in the letter”.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said: “I have come to know about it, not seen it yet. Things have been said and presented in a wrong way. Everyone has freedom of speech but our freedom ends when we encroach upon the freedom of others.”

The show was under fire earlier for mocking actress Deepika Padukone’s battle with depression.
