London: In an utterly embarrassing scandal, two British soldiers were caught having sex inside a military helicopter.
The ground staff at Otterburn range in Northumberland, north-east England, had finished servicing the armed Apache helicopter — worth 8.5 million euros and equipped with 30mm cannon and Hellfire missiles — during routine night-time work when maintenance personnel noticed the copter’s rotors making unusual movements, reported the Mirror.
They also heard strange noises from the helicopter and decided to check what was the matter.
They found two half naked soldiers, squeezed into the rear cockpit and engaged in sexual activity in a drunken state. The man was dressed in Army uniform, while the woman was in civilian attire.
The duo was asked to come out and get dressed, the Military Aviation Authority said.
“It became apparent that the rear cockpit was occupied by two people engaged in sexual intercourse. Both were naked from waist down. They were ordered to exit the cockpit and get dressed. Both parties were serving soldiers. Both showed symptoms of intoxication,” the report detailed.
The copter belonged to Army Air Corps’ 653 Squadron, but both soldiers were part of a different Army unit. They were detained till their parent unit and commander of 653 Squadron arrived at the spot.
The incident took place in 2016, became public recently, the Sun reported.
Following the scandal, authorities were asked to make sure the choppers were locked and secure in future so that no one could sneak in.
