Berhampur: Several students of Berhampur University are upset after two students, who had allegedly misbehaved with a professor facing sexual harassment charges, were not allowed to appear for the fourth-semester exam on Monday.
The students are upset that instead of taking action against the professor concerned, the university has taken action against the two students who demanded justice for the victim.
The victim has lodged a complaint with the university authorities and police, charging the professor in the university’s Odia department with sexual harassment. The alleged incident took place in June, when the professor allegedly called her to his residence on the pretext of teaching her. At his residence, the professor allegedly sexually harassed her.
When the two students, who were on Tuesday not allowed to take the exam, came to know about the incident, they allegedly misbehaved with the professor demanding action against him.
Complaints were filed by both sides at the Gopalpur police station.
The victim has demanded that the two students should be allowed to appear for the exam and the university instead should take strong action against the professor.
According to reports, the professor, who was arrested and later released on bail, has started taking classes again, which has angered students.
