Bhubaneswar: Days after losing the all legacy verified blue ticks, several personalities across politics, entertainment and sports were pleasantly surprised to have found these back on their Twitter account on Sunday.

According to reports, Twitter has started returning blue ticks to users with more than 1 million followers. The action was performed even if some or all of them had not paid for subscriptions.

Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, Alia Bhatt, Priyanka Chopra, Salman Khan, and Hrithik Roshan now have blue ticks next to their name without having to pay for it.

Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah also tweeted to inform the blue tick had been reinstated for his handle, despite not paying for Twitter Blue. Journalists Rana Ayyub and Nidhi Razdan also had her verified status back.

Twitter users also pointed out that Kobe Bryant, Norman Macdoland and Chadwick Boseman, who are not alive anymore, also got their blue tick back.

However, a few celebrities like Amitabh Bachchan, Jr NTR, SS Rajamouli and Kangana Ranaut, had already subscribed to Twitter Blue and it is unclear whether their verified status will remain after their subscription ends.

Before the platform was bought by Elon Musk, the blue tick was a badge of verification given for free by Twitter. Musk had then stated that the manner in which the blue checkmarks has been given out were “corrupt and nonsensical” and termed the verification system as a “lords & peasants system”. On April 12, he announced, the social network will take away the verification badges from people who do not subscribe to Twitter Blue and those who decided not to pay the subscription fee, began losing their ticks on April 20.

Twitter Blue subscription costs Rs 900 per month for mobile users and for desktop users it’s Rs 650 per month or Rs 6,800 per year.
