Jharsuguda: Setting a bad example for the society, an Additional Tehsildar beat up an elderly street vendor with a stick here while enforcing lockdown.
The old vendor was selling watermelons along the road at Bombay Chhak and was about to close the shop after the permitted time limit during the lockdown, when Additional tehsildar Jobita Tirkey reached the spot and got angry with him.
The man reportedly protested when she seized his weighing machine and this is when she started beating him with a stick, said locals. A video of the incident viral on social media.
After being informed, Additional Collector said necessary action will be taken in this connection after a probe.
Meanwhile, Tirkey has reportedly apologised to the vendor.
