Bhubaneswar: After a weeklong spell of thunderstorms and moderate rain, the day temperature in interior Odisha went up sharply on Tuesday.
According to the evening bulletin of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the maximum day temperature soared to 40 degrees Celsius and above in 11 places.
While Sonepur recorded the highest temperature at 42 degrees Celsius, the 10 other places, Angul (41.7) followed by Boudh (41.5), Sambalpur (41.2), Sundargarh (41), Talcher (40.7), Bhawanipatna (40.7), Phulbani (40.4), Titlagarh (40.2), Baripada (40) and Malkangiri (40).
Apart from this, the day temperature also rose sharply in the twin cities of Cuttack (38) and Bhubaneswar (39.4).
The IMD further said that under the influence of a trough stretching from north Bihar to north Chhattisgarh across Jharkhand, there will be thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Balangir, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj on May 20 and Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Kandhamal and Dhenkanal on May 21.
