Paris: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has received France’s highest civilian honour, Chevalier de la Legion d’Honneur (the Legion of Honour), for his writings and speeches.
“As one who cherishes our relations with France, loves the language and admires the culture, I am honoured to be recognized in this way. My gratitude and appreciation to those who have seen fit to award me this distinction,” tweeted Tharoor, known for using rarely used English words in his posts.
Tharoor, a two-term MP from Thiruvananthapuram and former diplomat with a 23-year-long career in United Nations, received a similar honour from Spanish government in 2010, when the King of Spain bestowed upon him the Encomienda de la Real Order Espanola de Carlos III.
