Kendrapada: Almost three weeks after mysterious deaths of 29 sheep in two days at Niali in Cuttack district, 25 more were reportedly found dead with injury marks at Kalagada under Mahakalpada block in Odisha’s Kendrapada district on Sunday morning.
Local residents were shocked to see the flock of 29 dead in the shed of a villager. A revenue inspector and a livestock inspector inspected the spot. The block administration would conduct a probe a probe into the incident, sources said.
On March 12 and 13, 29 sheep were found at Gunadola village and Thakura Pokhari under Kantapara block in Cuttack district.
It may be recalled that Niali had witnessed similar mayhem in 2017. The killing spree by mysterious animal/s was first reported in June that year. In two months time, over 250 sheep were killed in the the region. The expert team of Wildlife Institute of India (WII) had then put to rest all speculation about the sheep-killer of Niali by suggesting that all evidence pointed to a wolf.
In April, 2021, mystery animals created chaos in the neighbouring Balipatna block, killing a few sheep.
