New Delhi: Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who has been in India for the last 24 hours, has not sought asylum “anywhere”, her son told NDTV on Wednesday. Hasina, 76, was contemplating retirement anyway and now she will retire from politics and is likely to divide her time among her family members, added Washington-based Sajeeb Wazed.
On multiple reports about the UK’s “silence” on her request for asylum and revocation of her visa by the US, Wazed told NDTV that the reports about her requesting asylum are incorrect. She has not requested asylum anywhere. So the question of the UK or US not responding yet is not true, adding there has been no discussion with the US regarding the revocation of her visa.
Wazed said his mother was done with politics in Bangladesh and was planning to retire anyway, this was going to be her last term.
The family is now planning to spend time together but where and how is yet to be worked out since he is in Washington, his aunt is in London, and his sister lives in Delhi. She might travel between the places, he told NDTV.
Ms Hasina’s aircraft provided by the Bangladesh armed forces had landed at the Indian Air Force base in Hindon near Delhi yesterday, shortly after taking off from Dhaka.
