Cuttack: A day after more than 150 people fell ill after consuming sherbet during Mahashivratri celebrations at Salepur in Cuttack district, the sherbet seller was arrested by police on Thursday night.
The accused identified as Prabhakar Rout, was nabbed by police from Dhenkanal railway station.
The locals of Raisunguda village in the district complained of stomach ache, vomiting and dysentery soon after drinking sherbet from Prabhakar’s shop located near Sapneswar temple on Wednesday night. They were admitted to different hospitals including Mahanga and Salepur.
More than ten victims were later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack after their condition deteriorated.
