Shiromani Akali Dal Urges CBFC To Stop Release Of Kangana’s Emergency

New Delhi: The Shiromani Akali Dal has sent a legal notice to the Central Board of Film Certification over Kangana Ranaut’s upcoming film ‘Emergency.’ The notice seeks to prevent the film’s release. The party has claimed that the film may trigger communal tension.

Likely To Be Banned In Telangana

The film is likely to be banned in Telangana after the state Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy had reportedly assured Sikh community leaders that the state government would consider banning the release of the film, reported the News 18. Earlier, a delegation of 18 members from the Telangana Sikh Society, led by former Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Tejdeep Kaur Menon, had met government adviser Mohammad Ali Shabbir at the Secretariat, requesting him to ban the film.

The delegation also submitted a report, citing concerns over the portrayal of the Sikh community in the film. Before its release, the film has stirred up controversial as the Sikh community claimed that the film depicts Sikhs as terrorists and anti-nationals. They fear the film would tarnish the image of the community.

Ranaut, a BJP MP, plays the role of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in the film. It is slated to hit the screens on September 6.
