Bengaluru: In a shockingly cruel and inhuman incident, a class 4 student died on Monday after being pushed off the first-floor balcony of a government school in Karnataka.
According to police, the guest teacher, identified as 45-year-old Muthappa Yellapa, bashed up the 10-year-old boy with a shovel and pushed him from the first floor of the school premises at Hadli village in Naragund taluk of Gadag district.
When the kid’s mother, who is a teacher in the same school, tried to intervene, she was also thrashed by accused with a shovel.
She is under treatment at KIMS Hospital.
“The boy was killed and his mother was also seriously injured. Another teacher Shivanand Patil also sustained minor injuries, and has been admitted to a local hospital,” superintendent of police (SP) Shivprakash Devaraju was quoted as saying.
The teacher, who managed to run away, is absconding. An FIR has been registered against him under section 302 (murder) of IPC as police are leaving no stone unturned to arrest him.
“It is clear how the incident occurred but we don’t yet know the motive. We will get more information in a day or two,” said the SP.
A special team has been formed to probe the crime. All the teachers will be interrogated.
