Bhubaneswar: A video of some prisoners striking a drug deal inside Khurda jail has raised concern over the security arrangements in state prisons.
The video shows the prisoners discussing a deal about brown sugar. One of them then uses a mobile phone to instruct someone to send 250 g of cannabis and two mobile phones inside the jail. “The quality of brown sugar is said to be good. Tell the dealer to send more 10 g and we will pay for it,” he added.
The incident has exposed the easy availability of drugs and mobile phones to prisoners in the jail.
When contacted, former DGP Sanjiv Marik said, “The visuals of the availability of narcotics in jails are certainly shocking. Such illegal activities cannot happen without the knowledge and nexus of the jail officials concerned.”
