Sholay Re-Release Review On X: Fans Hail ‘Flawless 4k Restoration’, Call It ‘One Of The Biggest Entertainers’

Mumbai: After celebrating its 50th anniversary in August, the iconic 1975 classic ‘Sholay’ was released in theatres with its original uncensored ending on December 12.

The restored 4K version titled ‘Sholay: The Final Cut’ has simply floored viewers. It includes the original climax in which Thakur Baldev Singh (played by Sanjeev Kumar) killed Gabbar Singh (played Amjad Khan) by kicking him onto a nail.

However, for 50 years since its release in 1975, Gabbar was shown to be arrested by police in the end.

As the movie re-released in cinemas, its iconic dialogues and legendary characters made fans nostalgic. They took to social media to review the classic.

“Flawless Restoration #Sholay With The New Climax wow just wow. With Original Sound Original Colors…..chestey Restoration ila cheyandi ledha Cheyakandi…plz leave old film as it is anthe kani AI ani GI ani karab cheyakandi (Do the restoration like this or don’t do it at all… Please leave the old film as it is. But don’t do things like upscaling and color correction) please,” wrote one person.

Another moviegoer shared, “Watching this epic on the big screen has always been a dream come true… Finally, it’s done… Watched in 4K Restoration, with the original cut… #SholayInCinemasNow.”

One user wrote, “The vintage item songs ka baap… Mehbooba aa Mehboobaa #SholayRerelease #Sholay4k #SholayTheFinalcut.”

“One of the biggest entertainers ko big screen pe dekhne ka alag hi mazaa aaya #Sholay,” tweeted one.

One netizen commented, “#Sholay on the big screen is NOT just a re-release, it’s a history lesson! Gabbar, Jai-Veeru ki dosti, aur woh iconic dialogues. Yeh *mazaa* miss mat karna! #BollywoodNostalgia #SholayReRelease.”

A fan mentioned, “It’s showtime for the movie #Sholay at PVR-INOX. Thanks to the great writer duo Salim-Javed ji for this amazing entertainer. Love you #Dharmendra ji #Sholay4K.”

In a recent interview, ‘Sholay’ director Ramesh Sippy said he has no plans of making a sequel to the movie.

“Baatein hoti hain iske bare mein, lekin I have never been tempted. What I wanted to make came out right; it does not mean that I have to remake it or follow up with a sequel,” the director was quoted as saying by Free Press Journal.

“One also has to understand the concept of a sequel. Amjad Khan and Sanjeev Kumar have passed away. Then, Amjad’s character was a major one. Sanjeev, shayad fir bhi another person in that getup might have worked, but certainly not Gabbar,” Sippy stated.

“You cannot… the disappointment will be there itself. I think I did not find it wise; maybe others think differently. Personally, I think Sholay should not be attempted again,” the director added.

The film stars Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra, Hema Malini, Jaya Bachchan, Sanjeev Kumar, Amjad Khan and Asrani among others.

Initially, ‘Sholay: The Final Cut’ was scheduled to be screened at the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa. However, technical glitches from the makers’ side led to its cancellation, as per a Hindustan Times report.
