Kyiv: Mayors of two Ukrainian towns have authorized law enforcement officers to shoot looters on the spot, Russian English-language news channel RT.
“I am warning everyone: the police, the National Guard, the territorial defense units — they all received orders not to detain, they can just shoot on the spot. There will be no looting in the city,” Zhytomyr mayor Sergey Sukhomlyn said during a Facebook video address.
Issuing a similar warning, Okhtyrka territorial community mayor Pavel Kuzmenko said that looting had spread in the town’s “private sector”, and called on citizens to report any suspicious incident.
“Looting results in shooting on the spot,” Kuzmenko said in his Facebook video.
He further said that store owners who increase food prices will also be considered looting.
The Ukrainians have claimed that Russian troops have been looting banks, grocery stores in Ukraine cities.
