Kolkata: In a daring encounter, the Special Task Force (STF) of West Bengal Police on Wednesday gunned down two notorious gangsters from Punjab who were hiding in a rented apartment at a multi-storeyed residential complex in New Town area near Kolkata.
A police officer was injured as the criminals also opened fire.
According to police, the duo was wanted for multiple crimes in several states like Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh.
According to reports, Jaipal Singh Bhullar, one of the slain criminals, was involved in the murder of police personnel in Ludhiana some months ago. The other person was identified as Jaspreet Jassi. Both were allegedly involved in smuggling of firearms and explosives.
Police sources said a large cache of armed ammunitions was recovered from the flat they were living in.
According to police, STF received information about the gangsters from two men who were nabbed in Birbhum district three days ago while trying to smuggle in explosives and pistols from Bihar.
