Shopkeeper Arrested For Selling Banned ‘Manja’ In Cuttack City

Cuttack: Police on Monday arrested a shopkeeper selling banned glass-coated kite string in Jagatpur area following a raid on shops in the city over sale of the banned manja which claimed the life of a young  man on Sunday.

During the raids on shops at Nayasadak and Nandi Sahi areas, Purighat police arrested one Sk Anwar. Police also seized huge stock of manja thread from the accused.

It may be mentioned that one Jayant Samal and his wife of Bhayarpur were going to his in-law’s house at Pirbazaar in Cuttack city when the manja got entangled in his neck. The two fell off the vehicle and a profusely bleeding Jayant was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Family members of the deceased had lodged a complaint at the Jagatpur police station.
