shopkeeper arrested for killing bull

Sambalpur: A hungry bull managed to take away a packet of bread from a grocery shop in Odisha’s Sambalpur district and finished it off. Little did the bull know what awaited.

In a fit of rage, Shiva Mohanty, the man at the shop in Hirakud area, rushed towards the bull and attacked it with a knife.

The knife wound left the bovine badly injured.

Local people informed the nearby veterinary clinic, from where a team of doctors arrived at the spot and attended to the injured bull. However, the bovine succumbed due to excessive bleeding, according to locals.

Angered by Mohanty’s brutal act for a packet of bread worth about Rs 20, local people and animal rights activists lodged a complaint against the 55-year-old shop owner.

Based on the complaint, police arrested Mohanty on charges of killing the bull. The accused will be produced in a local court.
