Balangir: A shopping mall has been imposed a fine of Rs 33,000 for allegedly charging Rs 16 for a carry bag from a consumer in Odisha’s Balangir distirct.
According to sources, the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has imposed a fine of Rs 33,000 on Vishal Mega Mart for charging the customer Rs 16 for a carry bag after he made some purchase in the mall.
The consumer, identified as Suryakant Bag, had approached the consumer redressal forum in October, last year with a complaint against the Mart
As per the Bag, he had gone to the mall along with children for shopping and purchased goods worth over Rs 2900 and spent over an hour at the Mart.
At the payment counter, the employees handed over the products without any bag and told him that he would have to purchase a carry bag costing Rs 16, said Bag.
The customer subsequently filed a petition with consumer forum against the shopping mall. He expressed happiness over the order of the district consumer disputes redressal commission and said that general public should be aware of their rights.
