Short Supply Of Coal Likely To Hit Power Generation At NTPC-Kaniha

Angul: Thermal power generation in National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) Ltd at Kaniha in Odisha’s Angul district is most likely to hit hard due to short supply of coal, plant sources said.
The 3,000 MW plant, which has a daily requirement of 55,000 metric tonnes (MT) of coal to run its six units, is getting only around 40,000 MT at present. To run its six units, the plant is currently using coal from its stockyard.
It may be recalled that the plant had faced a similar situation in March last year when the power generation had plummeted to around 2,700 MW per day, forcing the plant authorities to cut down power supply to Odisha by 70 MW per day.
The plant, which receives coal from Lingaraj Block of the Talcher Coal Field, supplies power to Odisha, Bihar, Sikkim, Assam, Tripura, Damodar Valley Corporation, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
