Bhubaneswar: The state government has decided to give priority to second dose of Covishield vaccination for COVID-19 over new beneficiaries of first dose.
In a letter to the collectors, municipal commissioners and CDM&PHOs, additional chief secretary, Health, PK Mohapatra has stated that under the revised COVID-19 vaccination schedule, 2nd dose of Covishield vaccine is due in 12-16 week window.
About 28 lakh beneficiaries will be due for Covishield second dose in the state in July, while about 25 lakh doses are expected to be received in the month.
Keeping the limitation on Covishield supply in the month, Mohapatra requested the officers to give priority to the beneficiaries of second dose over those of first dose.
Meanwhile, Mohapatra has requested the Centre to allocate an additional 15 lakh doses of Covishield to the state to manage vaccination sessions smoothly.
