Kendrapada: A show cause has been issued to principal of a private English medium school under Marshaghai police limits in Odisha’s Kendrapada district after video of a seven-year-old boy tied to the school’s main gate went viral on social media.
The incident, which took place on November 25, came to light on December 6 after photos and videos of the Class II student went viral, triggering outrage among the people. Some teachers had allegedly tied him to the iron gate for nearly two hours as a punishment for creating disturbances in the classroom.
“It’s an unfortunate incident. An inquiry has been started. I conducted an on-site investigation on Friday. The principal of the school has been issued a show cause notice. Action will be taken after the inquiry process is complete in a day or two,” Block Education Officer (BEO) Prafulla Kumar Swain told the media.
Principal and teachers of the school declined to comment on the matter.
Notably, the Odiha government banned corporal punishment in schools in September 2004.
