Mumbai: Aftab Poonawala, who had been accused of killing his live-in partner Shraddha Walkar in 2022 and then chopping off her body into 35 pieces in Delhi, is reportedly on the hit list of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, reports claimed.
This revelation came up during investigations into the murder of NCP leader Baba Siddique, an Indian Today report claimed quoting sources in the Mumbai Police. The Bishnoi gang had claimed responsibility for the murder of Siddique in a purported social media post.
After this information was received, the authorities at the Tihar Jail, where Poonawala is currently lodged, has reportedly tightened the security around the accused.
However, the jail officials haven’t confirmed about receiving any formal intimation from Mumbai Police.
The Shraddha Walker case had sent shockwaves across the country. Poonawala allegedly murdered Shraddha Walkar, 27, by strangling her as the victim pressured him into marriage. Poonawala reportedly stored Shraddha’s body parts in a refrigerator for about 20 days. Later, he began disposing those at various locations in Delhi’s Mehrauli forest. The incident came to light months later when Shraddha’s father filed a missing person report.
According to reports, the Bishnoi gang has targeted several individuals for taking revenge and over rivalries. One of their primary targets is Bollywood superstar Salman Khan. The Bishnoi gang reportedly wants to avenge for the 1998 blackbuck killing by Salman Khan as the animal is considered to be sacred by the community.
Others on the hit list include Shaganpreet Singh, the manager of slain Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala. The singer was also murdered by the Bishnoi gang.
Additionally, gangster Kaushal Chaudhary, currently jailed in Gurugram, and rival gangster Amit Dagar are also on Bishnoi’s radar.
