Nayagarh: A sub-inspector and a constable have been suspended from service for escape of an accused from a police station in Odisha’s Nayagarh district.
According to sources, police Umesh Pradhan of Jhagadpad village under Fategarh police station was apprehended by the police in connection with a case involving a girl. He was detained in the police station after being apprehended.
On Thursday, Umesh managed to escape from the police station while the personnel were busy with their works. They came to know about his escape later on the day.
Suspecting that Umesh might have escaped to the reserve forest near the police station, they started a search operation. Even after searching the forest the whole night, they failed to trace him.
After the news of the escape of the accused from the police station was highlighted in the media, Nayagarh SP S Sushree took serious note of the matter.
Citing gross negligence on the part of the police personnel, who were responsible for the custody of Umesh, the SP, in an official order on Saturday, suspended sub-inspector Suchitra Behera and constable Muli Charan Nayak from the service. Meanwhile, Umesh remains absconding while the police continue to trace him.
