Puri: Three deities of Jagannath temple in Odisha’s Puri town – Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhada – who had fallen ill, have recovered after taking the herbal potion.
This was informed by the priests and servitors of the temple to Puri king Gajapati Dibyasingha Deb as part of ‘Bije’ ritual of the deities on Saturday.
As per tradition, ‘Baidyaraj’ (head of traditional medicine practitioners) had prepared ‘Dasamula’ (herbal potion) and offered it to the sibling deities as part of treatment on Ekadasi (11th lunar day) on Friday. The ‘Chandana Lagi’ ritual of the deities was also performed on the day.
The deities had fallen ill and were confined to ‘Anasara Ghara’ for 14 days after participating in ‘Snana Yatra’. They were bathed with 108 pitchers of holy water on ‘Snana Mandap’ of the temple. As the deities were in ‘Anasara’, the devotees were not allowed to have their darshan during the period.
After totally recovering from illness, the Lords will appear before the devotees for ‘Nabajaubana Darshan’ on June 29. One day after, they will move out of the temple in their chariots on annual sojourn to Mausima temple during Rath Yatra on July 1.
