Mumbai: Sidharth Malhotra’s heartfelt birthday post for wife Kiara Advani was met with an unexpected wave of trolling on social media, as some users brought up her intimate scenes from the recently released ‘Toxic’ song ‘Tabaahi’.
While several comments targeted the actor, fans were quick to defend the couple, calling out the misogyny and double standards behind the criticism.
As Kiara celebrated her 33rd birthday on Friday, Sidharth took to Instagram to share an adorable unseen photo of his wife, accompanied by a heartfelt note that read, “Happy birthday to the one who makes every day a little sweeter…even when she’s stealing my ice cream.”
The photo featured Kiara in a pink salwar kameez enjoying an ice cream cone.
While many fans flooded the comments section with birthday wishes and congratulatory messages, several others left derogatory remarks, mocking Sidharth for supporting his wife over her intimate scenes in ‘Toxic’.
Some users also shared GIFs and stills from the song ‘Tabaahi’, accompanied by laughing emojis.
The trolling prompted many fans to defend the couple, calling out the hateful remarks.
A Reddit post further claimed that Sidharth had restricted comments on his Instagram account because of the abuse.
However, his comments section remains open, with several Reddit users rallying behind the actor couple and condemning the online harassment.
“Most of these men making these disgusting comments are super misogynistic. They claim men like Siddharth who support wives are simps while being incels themselves. Meanwhile, they will root for characters like Kabir Singh who f***s around without a care, or even actors who, though they are married, are still doing intimate scenes,” wrote one.
Another commented, “It’s sad. They keep pestering on old posts of them too, I have noticed.”
Calling out the double standards of only targeting the women in such cases, one wrote, “It doesn’t make sense either. He did such scenes with Janhvi; no one shamed him for it, and when Kiara does it, it suddenly becomes a problem for everyone.”
Another added, “And if that is so bad, why is no one shaming Yash for it. He is married with two kids.”
