Bhubaneswar: A special squad of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) seized banned single-use plastic worth Rs 50 lakh from a house at Saheed Nagar area here on on Thursday.
The squad reportedly acted on a tip-off about the banned items being hoarded inside a godown. The State Pollution Control Board (SPCB) authorities were subsequently informed.
BMC sources said the plastic wares were imported from Kolkata and Gujarat and reportedly sold to various eateries in the city.
Environmentally harmful single-use plastic has been banned in all urban areas of Odisha since October 2.
