Bhubaneswar: Sehwag Swaggers overcame Kohli Warriors in a thrilling final to win the third edition of SAI International Residential School (SIRS) Champions Trophy.
A players’ auction on March 9 was the opening act of the tournament, which was one of the highlights of SAI Kaleidoscope 2024.
Six teams fought their guts out for the winner’s trophy, with Kohli Warriors defeating Dravid Dodgers by 8 wickets and Sehwag Swaggers triumphing over Ganguly Gang by 9 wickets in the semifinals.
The grand finale was held on March 22, the day IPL 2024 got underway.
The best players from each team in SIRS Champions Trophy Season 3 were recognised for their outstanding contributions. Among them were Nihar Atal from Ganguly Gang, Krishi Hemanta Singh from Sachin Smashers, Yuvraj Jangyaswaroop from Dhoni Devils, Askand Singh from Dravid Dodgers, Ritesh Nayak from Kohli Warriors and Abbhas S. Sultaniya from Sehwag Swaggers.
Odisha’s renowned pacer Basant Mohanty, who was te chief guest for the final, said he was delighted to see the passion for cricket among the young cricketers.
“My heartiest congratulations to all the teams and players who showcased their talent and sportsmanship throughout this journey. Remember, it’s not just about winning or losing, but the spirit with which we play the game that truly matters,” said Basant, who retired at the end of 2022-23 domestic season with 403 first-class wickets playing for Odisha and East Zone.
