Mumbai: Celebrated playback singer Sonu Nigam, who recently performed in Kolkata, had to step in to take charge of the unruly crowd at the concert.
A video from the concert, which is doing the rounds on social media, shows the singer visibly upset after some of the attendees stood up and disrupted the concert.
As the organisers failed to manage the situation, the singer himself took charge and firmly asked the attendees to either sit down or leave the venue.
Addressing the crowd, Sonu said, “Agar tumko khada hona hi hai, election mein khade ho jao yaar! Please bithao. Jaldi karo… itna time jaa raha hai, maalum hai? Apka cut-off time aa jayega phir. Baitho! Bahar niklo! Make this space empty (If you want to stand, go stand in an election! Please sit down. Hurry up… do you know how much of my time is being wasted? Your cut-off time will come soon. Sit! Get out! Make this space empty).”
As soon as the video from the concert went viral, netizens came out in support of the singer and lauded him for handling the situation by himself.
One user expressed, “It was so disgusting that due to poor management by organisers, Sonu Sir had to intervene himself. So shameful.”
Another commented, “This is so sad, he had to himself manage the crowd, bad management by BookMyShow…How do you expect an artist to himself control such a huge crowd.”
Defending the singer, another user explained, “I was there. He was not angry, he was doing this because of his commitment towards his audience. These people were blocking the view of the sitting audience and the Kolkata Police was so callous that they were standing and watching. The show started extremely late, what I came to know, because of generator failure so this was bound to happen.”
Some fans even compared the situation with the unfortunate incident in which singer KK lost his life after a concert in Kolkata in June 2022.
One user wrote, “He had to do it by himself because he knows what happened to KK due to this type of management & security… Everyone will have to do this here and everywhere while running the show for self-security.”
