Khurda: Medical facilities in Banapur came to a virtual halt as doctors at the Banapur Hospital in Khurda district staged a dharna in protest against the thrashing of their colleague by six persons on Monday.
All medicine stores in Banapur town also remained closed in response to the doctors’ strike.
According to available information, Prashant Sahu of Khutapali village was brought to the hospital for treatment after he was electrocuted with a live electric wire. However, the doctors declared him dead at the hospital.
Irked over this, relatives of the patient created a ruckus on the hospital premises and asked the doctors to refer him to another hospital claiming that he was alive.
Later, the situation took an ugly turn when the agitators allegedly thrashed a doctor forcing him to treat the patient.
All the six were subsequently arrested.
