Bhubaneswar: Six persons including Odisha Pradesh Youth Congress president Loknath Maharathy were arrested for allegedly tearing up a poster of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a petrol pump near Delta Square here on Sunday.
“We have launched a poster tearing campaign in the city to protest against fuel price hike by the Centre. The owners of different petrol pumps have been requested not to put up poster of Modi at their respective establishments”, Maharathy said.
“The Narendra Modi-led Central Government had promised about ‘Achhe Din’ before being voted to power. But the real picture is just the opposite. The party will continue protesting till fuel prices are reduced,” Maharathy added.
On the other hand, BJP state unit vice president Sameer Mohanty said, “If the BJD-led Odisha government is so serious about the fuel price rise issue, then why didn’t Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik raise the same issue in the GST council meeting. This clearly indicates that the Chief Minister is using Congress for his personal profit.”
The BJD, meanwhile, has refuted to the allegations made by the saffron party.
