Paradip: Ersama Police on Friday unearthed a brown sugar racket and detained six persons in this connection.
The police also seized brown sugar weighing 700 grams and Rs 21 lakh in cash from the accused along with gold ornaments. Three persons detained in this connection have been identified as Manas Swain, Biswa Prakash Naik and Jyoti Prakash Lenka.
Ersama Inspector In-charge Lizarani Biswal had arrested a brown sugar dealer at the local busstand a couple of days back. The mastermind of the contrabad trade was traced to Shandapur under Kujanga police station. Biswal along with two officers of Kujang station and Tirtol sub-divisional police officer conducted the raids and detained three persons, identified as Bandana Swain, Akshyaya Swain and Rajesh Samal. However, the chief trader fled the scene.
Further investigations are underway.
