Bhubaneswar: Six persons drowned in separate incidents during Holi festivities in Odisha on Friday. A minor boy was among those who drowned.
In Cuttack, a college student drowned while taking a dip in Kathjodi river. The deceased, identified as Satish Kumar Sahu of Gopalpur village was a Plus II student of Kandarpur College on the outskirts of the city. He had gone with his friends to take a bath in the river after playing Holi and slipped into the deep waters. Following information, a fire brigade rushed to the spot and fished out the body.
A youth drowned in the Puri Canal near Barang on the outskirts of the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar. The deceased, whose identity was not immediately known, belonged to Chandrasekharpur area in Bhubaneswar.
Reports from Jajpur said that a youth drowned while taking a bath in the Kharasrota river after playing Holi. The deceased was identified as Niranjan Paramik of Berada panchayat in Jagatpur area under Sadar police limits. The body of the youth was taken out by the ODRAF team.
In another incident, Bishnu Gadasara, a Class I student of Thiaberana village under Lahunipada police limits in Bonai sub-division of Sundargarh district drowned in the village pond.
In Mayurbhanj district, a youth drowned in Sitakund waterfall in Similipal. The deceased has been identified as Akshaya Sharma of Balasore district.
In Titlagarh of Balangir district, Ashutosh Bisi of Gurujabhata village drowned while bathing in Tel river.
