Athagarh: Police on Monday arrested six persons in connection with a loan fraud to the tune of over one crore in the Cooperative Society of Gurudijhatia branch in Odisha’s Cuttack district.
The arrested include a peon, secretary and assistant secretary of Gurudijhatia Cooperative Society and a cashier, supervisor and a clerk of the Central Cooperative Bank of Athagarh branch.
Talking to the media, Choudwar SDPO Satyabrata Lenka said the farmers, in a complaint in Gurudijhatia police station, had alleged that some staff of the Gurudijhatia Cooperative Society and the Central Cooperative Bank in Athagarh had taken loans of over one crore rupees in their name.
Stating that the investigation revealed a large-scale fraud, he said a case relating to criminal conspiracy has been registered against the six accused, who will be forwarded to the court later in the day.
Demanding a probe into the loan fraud, the farmers had staged a road blockade in Athagarh town and attempted mass immolation in front of the State Assembly.
