Pattamundai: Normal life in Pattamundai of Kendrapara district was affected on Tuesday following a six-hour bandh observed by Congress demanding sub-division status for the block.
With vehicular movement, particularly public transport, coming to a standstill due to the strike, commuters had a harrowing time reaching their destinations.
Most shops, commercial establishments and many other institutions remained closed as the members of traders’ association and general public extended support to the strike.
“Pattamundai is the centre point of Kendrapara district. Residents of three assembly constituencies and twelve panchayats are dependent on Pattamundai as this is a place where sub-judge court, SDPO office and other government offices exist. Several organisations have been demanding sub-division status to the block since 1993 as it fulfils all the necessary criteria. So, the district administration must initiate proactive steps to protect the interests of the people”, said Nagar Congress Committee president Pradip Pradhan.
