Six Houses Of Drug Peddlers Demolished In Rourkela

Rourkela: Intensifying the drive against illegal narcotics network, police on Monday demolished houses of six drug peddlers in Odisha’s steel city Rourkela.

Rourkela police and local administration carried out the joint eviction and demolition drive at Meena P

ada within Plant Site police station amid tight security arrangements.

The special operation was carried out as part of the ‘Nasha Mukt Odisha Drive’, a senior police officer said.

During the operation, six houses allegedly linked to persons involved in multiple pending cases, including drug trafficking and other criminal activities, were demolished following due legal and administrative procedures, police said.

Backed by a heavy police force of five platoons, officials used bulldozers to demolish the houses built illegally by drug mafia members involved in selling brown sugar.

This crackdown comes just days after the police arrested eight people, including six women, for their involvement in the drug trade.

Sources said the structures were demolished as the criminals were suspected to be running their networks from inside jail, and this action sends a strong “zero tolerance” warning.
