Sambalpur: At least seven members of a wedding party were killed and three others critically injured after the vehicle carrying them skidded off the ebankment road into Sasan canal in Odisha’s Sambalpur district in early hours of Friday.
The deceased were identified as Ajit Khamari, Dibya Luha, Suraj Sethi, Sumant Bhoi, Subrat Bhoi, Shatrughna Bhoi and Umakant Bhuyan. The critically injured were admitted to a hospital in Sambalpur.
Sources said body of the driver of the vehicle who was missing after the accident was later fished out by fire service personel.
The wedding party from Badadhara of Jharsuguda district had gone to Paramanpur of Sambalpur on Thursday.
On way back home, the vehicle fell off the Sasan canal road.
A team of police personnel reached the spot and started an investigation into the accident. Further details are awaited.
