Puri: The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) on Tuesday decided the final schedule of the rituals for Chandan Yatra of the sibling deities in Odisha’s Puri.
As per the tradition, the Chandan Yatra of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Devis Subhadra, begins on the day of Akshay Tritiya. This year, Akshay Tritiya falls on April 23 as per the new almanac released recently. The Chandan Yatra continues for 21 days.
At a meeting of the members of Chhatish Nijoga and chief administrator of the SJTA, Vir Vikram Yadav, the timing of different rituals for the Chandan Yatra was decided.
As per the decision, ‘Dwadash Yatra’ and ‘Nakshatra Bandapana’ will be performed at 3 pm on Akshay Tritiya. It will be followed by the procession of the deities to ‘Vimana’ (palanquin). After getting ‘Angyamala’ at 4 pm, the ‘Vimana’ will be carried to the sacred pond.
Puri district collector Samath Verma and SP K Vishal Singh were also present at the meeting.
Significantly, the work on making three chariots of the deities for world famous Rath Yatra (car festival) also starts on this day.
