Bhubaneswar: The snow girl of Odisha, Ranjita Behera, will be representing the state in 2nd Khelo India National Winter Games, 2021.
She will be participating in the Alpine Ski. The games will be held at Gulmarg in Jammu-Kashmir from February 19 to 25.
It may be mentioned here that she is the only qualified skier of the state, who has also been selected by Ski & Snowboard India to participate in the coming Senior National Ski & Snowboard Championships-2021 to be held in Uttarakhand from February 26-28.
The Department of Sports & Youth Services, has shown keen interest in the snow sports and provided her with all assistance to help her participate in the Championships as a first skier of the State.
She is ready to move to the snow slopes for her pre-event practice.
Minister for Sports and Youth Services, Tusharkanti Behera congratulated her and said “It is a moment of pride for us that Ranjita Behera will be the first Odia from the state to participate in Snow Games. This is no small feat considering Odisha’s terrain and climate. With sheer grit and hard-work she has achieved this.”
“Her dedication to be a skier is commendable and we will extend all necessary support to excel and bring medals. She will be an inspiration for others, especially young girls, who may have dreams to follow the sport of skiing,” he added.
Hailing from Rourkela, Ranjita is the youngest daughter of Raghunath and Annapurna Behera. Her father is a retired employee of Rourkela Steel Plant.
