Cuttack: Dibyasingha Baral, an associate of slain BJP leader Kulamani Baral, has succumbed to his injuries at SCB Medical College and Hospital in the city.

Kulamani, the former chairman of Mahanga block in Cuttack district, and his associate Dibyasingha were attacked with sharp weapons by unidentified miscreants near Jankoti village in Cuttack district on Saturday evening.

While Kulamani died on the spot, Dibyasingha was taken to SCB in a critical condition. He, however, died while undergoing treatment on Saturday night.

Apprehending the untoward situation, two platoons of force have been deployed at the deceased’s native village of Nruttanga in Cuttack district. To oversee the law and order situation, one ASP, one SDPO and five Inspectors have been pressed into duty.

Expressing profound grief, minister and BJD MLA of Mahanga, Pratap Jena said stern action will be taken against those involved in the ghastly murder of the BJP leader.

Talking to the media, Kulamani’s son Ramakant said that his father has been murdered on the direction of the BJD MLA.

Meanwhile, on the basis of the complaint filed by Ramakant against four persons of Jankoti village and eight persons of Nruttanga village, Mahanga police have begun investigation into the case and detained one person for interrogation.

Condemning the murder of their party leader, Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan, BJP National Vice President Baijayant Panda, BJP state vice-president Bhrugu Baxipatra and president of the BJP Cuttack District unit Prakash Behera have demanded exemplary action against the assailants.
