Bhubaneswar: Three days after nine gold bars were found in the luggage of a woman, the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of the Customs Department on Friday seized smuggled gold from a passenger who arrived at Biju Patnaik International Airport here from Bangkok in a Kolkata-bound Air Asia flight.
According to sources, 283 grams of gold worth Rs 10 lakh was recovered from the buttons of the passenger’s shirt under meticulous scanning during the check-in process.
The accused passenger has been detained and further investigation is on, the sources added.
On Tuesday, nine gold bars of foreign origin valued at Rs 33, 16,579 concealed inside an emergency light were recovered from the woman passenger, who arrived here by an Air India flight from Delhi.
This apart, 122 packets of cigarettes worth Rs 1,22,000 were also seized. Both the items were detected during meticulous scanning of her checked-in baggage.
