Sunabeda: A disaster was averted with the intervention of the authorities of a public school here on Wednesday when children ran helter-skelter after finding a snake inside a toilet commode.
The four-ft long Indian rat snake apparently created a scare on the campus forcing the alert authorities to summon Snake Helpline.
On being contacted by principal of Sunabeda Deomali Public School in Koraput district, Snake Helpline volunteer Sujit Mohanty reached the school and picked up the snake from the commode without harming it.
Mohanty then freed the snake into a suitable habitat outside Sunabeda township.
