Social Activist Shot Dead In Odisha’s Rayagada

Rayagada: A wellknown social activist and director of a voluntary organisation was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Gunupur area of Odisha’s Rayagada district.

The deceased has been identified as Gouri Mishra, who was the director of a non government organisation (NGO).

Sources said Mishra was shot dead when he was going on a bike on the bridge over the Bansadhara River at Gunupur in the district late on Saturday. His body was recovered from the river bridge with bullet injury mark. It is suspected that he was shot from a close range.

While the exact reason behind the murder is yet to be ascertained, police have launched an investigation into the incident. Efforts are on to identify and nab the assailants.

A team of forensic experts also visited the spot as part of the probe. Further details are awaited.
