Angul: A group of social activists waved black flags at Health and Family Welfare Minister Pratap Jena at Police Station Square in Angul district on Friday.
The agitators showed black flags at the minister’s vehicle when he was heading towards Athmallik to participate in BJD’s Mahanadi Surakhya Abhijan (Save Mahanadi Campaign), protesting against the deteriorating health services in the district.
However, the protestors were immediately taken away by the police personnel.
“We had sought an audience with the minister at the circuit house to put forth our six-point charter of demands, including improvement of healthcare scenario, filling vacant posts of doctors and employees in different hospitals and making Talcher medical college operational in the current year. But, the minister refused to meet us. Such step-motherly attitude prompted us to wave black flags at him”, one of the agitators alleged.
