Bhubaneswar: A jawan of the Special Operation Group (SOG) died and two others were seriously injured when a hand grenade went off at the training centre in Chandaka area on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar on Tuesday.
The deceased has been identified as Prakash Sahu (34), a SOG havildar of Bargarh district.
According to reports, the SOG jawans were undergoing training at the camp in the morning when Sahu, while imparting training on the use of hand grenades, gave one grenade to a trainee cadet who inadvertently unlocked it. To save the cadet, Sahu snatched the grenade from his hand when it went off killing him on the spot.
The two seriously injured trainee cadets were rushed to a private hospital where their condition is stated to be critical.
