Bhubaneswar: Anti-corruption vigilance sleuths of Odisha on Monday apprehended a Soil Conservation Overseer for allegedly taking Rs 35,000 bribe to process documents for release of payment for MGNREGA works in Kalahandi district.
The accused, identified as Dhanujaya Dhoba and posted at Thuamul Rampur, had allegedly demanded Rs 35,000 from a beneficiary in order to process the documents for release of payment in his favour and other beneficiaries under MGNREGA towards work relating to digging of staggered trench, a vigilance release said.
Based on a complaint, a trap was laid and the accused was caught accepting the bribe. The entire bribe money has been recovered and seized from the possession of accused Dhoba.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches are going on at two locations of Dhoba from Disproportionate Assets (DA) angle.
In this connection, a case has been registered against Dhoba and investigation is in progress. Earlier, this accused was also involved in a DA case, the release added.
