Baripada: Vigilance sleuths apprehended a Soil Conservation Overseer while accepting a bribe of Rs 22,000 in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district on Monday.
Following a complaint that Kishore Kumar Behera, Soil Conservation Overseer, Bisoi block in the district was demanding Rs 22,000 as bribe from the complainant for processing muster roll of labourers engaged in execution of farm ponds under MGNREG scheme, the Vigilance set up a trap.
As per the plan, the complainant went to give the bribe and the Vigilance officials caught Behera red-handed while accepting the money. They recovered the entire amount from the possession of the Soil Conservation Overseer and seized it.
Following the trap, the Vigilance conducted simultaneous searches on properties of Behera at 3 locations from DA angle.
Balasaore Vigilance has registered a case under PC Amendment Act, 2018 in this connection. Further investigation is in progress against Behera.
