Imphal: The body of an Indian Army soldier was found in Manipur’s Imphal East district on Sunday.
The soldier was identified as sepoy Serto Thangthang Kom of the Army’s Defence Security Corps (DSC) platoon at Leimakhong in Kangpokpi district. He hailed from Tarung in Imphal West.
According to officials, unidentified armed men abducted sepoy Thangthang from his residence around 10 am on Saturday. He was on leave.
“An Indian Army soldier, Sep Serto Thangthang Kom (41), was abducted & later killed, by 3 unidentified miscreants, while on leave at Tarung, Happy Valley, Imphal West. He was deployed at DSC Platoon, Leimakhong, Manipur. He is survived by his wife & 2 children,” the Public Relations Officer (PRO) & Spokesperson, Ministry of Defence, Nagaland, Manipur & Rest of Arunachal Pradesh, wrote on X.
His 10-year-old son, the only eyewitness of the abduction, said three men entered their home while his father and he were working on the porch.
“We strongly condemn the killing of Sep Serto Thangthang Kom and stand by his family in these difficult times,” the Army said in a statement, adding that the sepoy’s last rites will be conducted as per the family’s wishes.
The Army has sent a team to assist the family in every possible way.
