Cuttack: Sona Mohaptra will be performing at Bali Jatra, Asia’s largest annual trade fair, on Sunday.
In a Facebook post, the Odisha-origin singer has invited Dua Lipa and Katy Perry, who are currently in India and performed at the first edition of the OnePlus Music Festival in Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium on Saturday.
“Would you not like to hang out, speak music and learn a bit more abut our glorious musical traditions with the real rockstars and music makers of India? Maybe you would like to attend this centuries old celebration that I am playing for (Drop a message),” she posted.
Elaborating on the maritime glory of Odisha, Sona wrote, “Bali Jatra literally means ‘A Voyage to Bali’. This festival has been in the city of Cuttack since 3 BC to mark the day when ancient mariners would set set sail to distant lands of Bali, as well as, Java, Sumatra, Borneo (all in Indonesia) and Sri Lanka (formerly Ceylon) for trade and cultural expansion.”
“Kalinga (Odisha) was one of the first sea daring kingdoms of Asia. To commemorate this, the festival is celebrated every year from the day of Kartika Purnima (full moon day of the month of Kartika). It is one of Asia’s biggest congregation of trade and culture but little covered in media,” she added.
